Retread vs full rebuild
If the stringers and framing are solid, new treads and risers can go directly over the existing structure. That keeps the layout, the rise and run, and the cost far below a rebuild.
Material and thickness
Full 1-inch solid treads for a substantial feel, or engineered treads matched to a floating floor. Returns are mitered on open sides so end grain never shows.
No-squeak install
Every tread is bedded in construction adhesive and mechanically fastened, with shims where the substructure is out of level.
